POSITION: EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT
DATE OF POSTING: June 13, 2023

REPORTS TO: School Principal(s) – Immediate Supervisor(s)
Superintendent – General Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or successful completion of the General Education Development (GED) Test requirements
2. NM Educational Assistant License
3. Demonstrates positive attitude, interest and motivation expected of an educational assistant

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Comply with the state approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and uphold and enforce department/unit rules, administrative directives and regulations, Board Policy, and State and Federal regulations. Assist the teacher in the delivery of the curriculum in the classroom.
1. Help students to understand assignments.
2. Treat all children with dignity and respect.
3. Work with and/or tutor individual students in small groups in the classroom or at the Computer/Technology Lab to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
4. Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
5. Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
6. Distribute and collect workbooks, papers and other materials used for instruction.
7. Guide independent study enrichment work, remedial work and assignments set up by the teacher.
8. Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, field trips, halls, cafeteria, etc.
9. Assist with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
10. Read to students, listen to student read, and participate in other forms of oral communication with students.
11. Assist students in the library or media center.
12. Assist teachers with cultural activities.
13. Inform teacher of any problems or special information about an individual student.
14. Serve as a resource of information and helps any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
15. Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students, their families and other employees outside the school as is expected of a fully licensed teacher.
16. Participate in training programs/professional development as assigned.
17. Attend meetings as requested.
18. Type, file and duplicate materials.
19. Perform other tasks as may be deemed appropriate and necessary by the supervisor(s).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As approved by the Superintendent
