POSITION: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

REPORTS TO: School Principal(s) – Immediate Supervisor
Superintendent – General Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current New Mexico Special Education Teacher License
2. Highly Qualified
3. Demonstrates cooperativeness and a willingness to carry-out assigned tasks and performance responsibility
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Comply with the state approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and uphold and enforce department/unit rules, administrative directives and regulations, Board Policy, and State and Federal regulations.
2. Teach content and skills in to students, utilizing the required standards and benchmarks and Common Core Standards.
3. Instruct students in citizenship, expected student behavior, and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the Las Vegas City School district.
4. Adopt materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
5. Adapt the curriculum to provide individual, small group or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual students.
6. Encourage students to think independently and to express original ideas.
7. Evaluate each student’s progress.
8. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
9. Communicate with parents on student’s progress and behavior.
10. Identify student needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
11. Supervise students in and out of classroom activities as assigned.
12. Administer group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
13. Participate in curriculum alignment, benchmarks, performance standards/assessments and revisions.
14. Gather data in order to develop strategies for student improvement.
15. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsoring of student activities to include; in and out of school activities as outlined in board policy.
16. Maintain professional competencies through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected or assigned professional growth activities.
17. Provide directions and materials for substitute teachers.
18. Safeguard the confidentiality of privileged information.
19. Must be technology literate.
20. Perform other tasks as deemed appropriate and necessary by the administrator.

SALARY: As per district salary schedule
