POSITION: LEAD CUSTODIAN

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or successful completion of the General Education Development (GED) test requirements.
2. Knowledge of school facilities and ability to service them.
3. Knowledge of cleaning supplies and equipment.
4. Knowledge of maintenance tools.
5. Demonstrates positive attitude, interest and motivation.
6. Must be literate and communicate well;
7. Must know math computations
8. Technical training in general maintenance work;
9. Knowledgeable in Inventory Procedures/Recording Accounting Procedures;
10. Must have a current New Mexico Driver’s License;
11. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds, when required;
12. Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend and walk without limitations;
13. Other qualifications determined to be necessary by the Superintendent.
14. Must demonstrate managerial skills in working with staff, students and parents;
15. Must be knowledgeable in safety standards;
16. Must be able to read a map;
17. Other qualifications considered necessary by the Support Services Director or Superintendent.
REPORTS TO: Director of Support Services and Superintendent
SUPERVISES: Custodial Personnel
JOB GOAL: In a shared and collaborative effort between the Lead Custodian and the custodial staff, maintain the district wide physical school plant and surrounding environment in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Lead Custodian is responsible for managing custodial staff to ensure in the day to day care necessary to the upkeep and safety of all district facilities and equipment as assigned by the individual building principal, designee or director during the school year and summer months. Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Assist and act in a confidential capacity with respect to a person who determines and
effectuates management procedures.
2. Respond to properly initiated work orders on priority basis and maintain district-wide physical
plant(s)
3. Examine school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance, inclusive of
mechanical repairs or replacements.
4. Establish and recommend priorities on repair projects.
5. Assist the Business Manager and director of Support Services in acquiring quotations, bids, purchasing, reports etc…
6. Able to work well with Maintenance Supervisor and School Principals
6. Lay out and inspect work and assist crewmembers.
7. Develop a system for dealing with emergency repair problems with efficiency.
8. Willing to perform duties after normal working hours when emergency situations arise
8. Performs emergency repair, cleaning services and grounds maintenance as necessary; assists in snow removal
8. Order materials as needed, and make recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase.
9. Deliver and supply custodial staff with needed supplies and equipment
9. Assign work orders to custodial personnel, checks drawings and plans. Work and consult with site secretary and with building principals regarding the establishment to generate work orders
10. Conduct employee-training sessions and will maintain records which are required.
11. Initiate recommendations leading to improvement of custodial upkeep.
12. work with maintenance supervisor to perform certain upkeep or repair services.
13. Assumes responsibility in monitoring safety and security in all school buildings.
14. Supervise and assist in the evaluation of custodial personnel.
15. Serve as the warehouse clerk receiving and distributing school supplies and equipment.
16. Address all PSFA requirements in relation to SchoolDude: including use and monitoring of
all staff. (ADA compliance, Fire Compliance, Safety Compliance, etc)
17. Complies with local, state and federal regulations and policies
18. Adheres to the daily and weekly breakdown of tasks as assigned by the Director of Support Services
17. Attend board meetings at the request of the Superintendent.
18. Perform other assigned tasks deemed appropriate and necessary by the Superintendent and/or Director of Support Services
19. Obey all traffic laws and must pass a Drug Test to operate school vehicles
20. Keep to the assigned schedule.
21. Report all accidents and complete all required reports.
22. Attend meetings with Supervisor(s)/principal(s) as requested and/or mandated
23. All other duties as assigned
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Work schedule and work hours to be established by the
Superintendent on an annual basis.
SALARY: Salary to be established by the Superintendent on an annual basis, through the
adoption of salary schedules.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the
adopted board policies. To be evaluated by the Director of Support Services.
